We're for the discoverers

The explorers. The free thinkers. The doers. The risk-takers. The underdogs. The pathfinders. The ones who were told it couldn't be done, and then did it – who first stepped on to terra incognita to hazard the unknown. The ones who understand that real discovery only happens at the edges.

We build tools for them.

Our Story

Storyline was launched on September 15th, 2019 amid little fanfare and even littler office space.

Storyline was launched over coffee by two guys familiar with cutting edge discoveries who had been working on these problems for years and decided that every researcher and clinician on Earth should have access to the most advanced behavioral data and A.I. technologies to uncover new models of health and disease. And, since no one else was foolish and naive enough to take that on, they would have to do it themselves.

So we did.

 Why Storyline?

We built Storyline because we knew how these technologies could help people.

We knew that we could use advanced A.I. to build models that would help researchers and clinicians understand and help people in ways that were never possible before.

We knew these things because we’d done the early work using A.I. to make sense of complicated behaviors and build powerful predictive models… and we knew the results.

So, we did what every other ad hoc team of academics and free thinkers do when they know something that can change the entire landscape around human cognition and care – we went to breakfast.

Over our morning coffees and afternoon video calls we came to understand that how and why we built these technologies was as important as what we built.

We went through the genomics revolution and witnessed how siloed information and data prevented easy collaborations and slowed learning. We saw how healthcare startups were forced to make bad decisions in the pursuit of investor profits.

We knew we needed something better.

We created a platform to accelerate learning and understanding across every aspect of human care.

Our platform is flexible enough to handle every use case. The data and information are powerful and collaboration and learning is easy. We address important concerns around data privacy, identity and ownership.

We built an ecosystem where we could capture the richest, most insightful and outcome-predictive phenotypes – human behaviors, expressions and sentiment – and can combine that with other data to find new biomarkers of health and disease.

We built a capability and process to accelerate research everywhere and enable precision medicine at massive scale. We did it in a way that helps as many researchers, clinicians and patients throughout the world, as possible.

That’s how we built Storyline.

Let us show you how we can help you.

Why Storyline?

We built Storyline to solve extraordinary problems, for everyone.

We build tools to understand human behavior and make that knowledge useful for everyone.

Why Storyline?

At Storyline, we’re different. We knew from day one we were building something different from other technology companies. Our name represents who we are as a company: we’re simple, human, and built for real people, all of which is embodied in the comfortably familiar name – Storyline.

Simple

We don’t think you should need to be a rocket scientist to use our technology - although some rocket scientists do... We obsess over building technology that just works – exactly the way you want it to – without anything getting in your way. That’s why we put design and usability as a premium and keep the rocket science out of sight.

Human

Businesses don’t use technology, people do, and there’s something comforting and familiar about “Storyline”. At it’s core we’re about relationships and trust, and allowing every person to tell their story so that we all can learn from it. It embodies that old-time familiarity providers once had with their patients by saying “Hi there, friend”.

Discovery

Storyline isn’t about another price-gouging get-rich-quick healthcare technology, it’s about learning something important which is much more powerful. It’s about working for researchers who grind it out every day to discover and gain valuable insights and learn something new.

We make it easier.

Our Mission

We exist to understand human behavior and make that knowledge useful for everyone.

You might be a clinician, neuroscientist, post doc, grad student, therapist, or healthcare CEO. You might run a lab, be working on your thesis or running a multi-location study responsible for solving a big problem that you can’t get your arms around. You might be solo or have a hundred collaborators and employees.

We know what it means to be a researcher.

We’ve been there.

Actually, we’re still there.

We built Storyline to solve our own research and business problems, and we designed Storyline to uncover new discoveries that move the needle for everyone. It’s why we focus on simplicity and usability, because we know how busy you are and what your day is like.

And, it’s why we’re obsessed with helping you make new discoveries, because we know that our success is based on helping researchers succeed.

Our goal is to accelerate every type of human behavioral research, and help every researcher. Everywhere.

So you can count on us to be transparent and do what we say we’re going to.

That goes for our products, and our company. So if you give us a shot you’ll see that we’re building Storyline for the long haul.

Our Values

2. Empower Others

Make heroes. Unleash the power of others inside and outside of the company.

3. Design experiences

Inspire confidence and admiration in every interaction someone has with Storyline.

1. Our work has meaning

We stand for more than just money. We're trusted to handle life-changing interactions when people are at their most vulnerable. We take that trust seriously.

6. Find truth

We continuously try to break our assumptions to find the truth whatever it is and no matter how long it takes.

5. Act with urgency

SOFU = Act with a Sense of F!#@&ing Urgency. There is no instruction book. Figure it out. Ship it and iterate.

4. Take Ownership

We own what we do. We think long term and act for the benefit of the company and our users. We never say "that's not my job".

7. Do big things

We are not intimidated, nor do we listen to the nay-sayers. We're building something bigger than ourselves that that advances our understanding and improves lives.

8. Be frugal

Profit is the engine that lets us achieve our goals. If we do more with less, we can do more.

9. Simplify.

We really only do one thing.

We build tools to understand and help people.

That’s it. Nothing else. No distractions. Nothing to steal our focus. No trying to get-rich-quick and conquer the whole world. We just do our best to conquer our bit of it. So each day we come in and work to solve problems for our users. We build the best behavioral A.I. and science tech. Constantly improve it. And then let hard working researchers and clinicians who know their own needs best do the rest.

There is a great deal of satisfaction to be gained from making something well, of seeing what you’ve built used to advance science and help people. It makes the hard work and the obsessing over each and every detail worth all the effort. That’s our reward. That’s why we stick to it.

Yup, we build tech to help people help other people. That’s all.
